Keselowski finally seeing results from long rebuild at RFK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — One of the best things to happen to rebranded RFK Racing came exactly one year ago when NASCAR found an illegal part on Brad Keselowski’s car. The illegal modification was found following just the fifth race of Keselowski’s first season as part owner of the once-proud organization founded by Jack Roush. The ensuing penalty was crippling and essentially ended Keselowski’s championship chances with 31 races remaining in the season. Deep down, Keselowski recognized RFK wasn’t good enough for the 2012 Cup champion to continue his run of eight consecutive playoff appearances. The penalty was the wakeup call the entire organization needed to make a massive cultural shift. “We deserved that penalty, and that penalty made us better,” Keselowski told The Associated Press. “It challenged everybody within the company to recognize ‘Hey, we can’t keep doing business the way we we’re doing it. We’re not getting results and now we’ve got a...Mbappé is named as France’s new captain by coach Deschamps

AP Sports Writer (AP) — World Cup top scorer Kylian Mbappé was named as France’s new captain on Tuesday, succeeding goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.France coach Didier Deschamps made the announcement in a short video clip which is set to be aired on soccer show Téléfoot.“It will be Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann will be vice-captain. Kylian ticks all the boxes to take on this responsibility, given what he does and will continue to do on the field,” Deschamps told Téléfoot. “And because he’s a unifying link between the youngest, the not so young and the oldest players. That’s why I made this choice but it’s not to the detriment of Antoine, because Antoine will also have an important responsibility.”Griezmann, who turned 32 on Tuesday, has played 117 games for France and the forward is regarded as being very close to Deschamps. The 24-year-old Mbappé will captain France against the Netherlands at Stade de France on Friday when qualifying starts for next ...Ecuador officials have suspect in explosives sent to media

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Authorities in Ecuador are investigating small explosives sent to journalists at several media outlets, one of which detonated but did not injure anyone, and they said Tuesday they have a suspect. The suspect is not being identified so as not to hinder the continuing investigation, Interior Minister Juan Zapata said, and he didn’t clarify if that person had been detained or if authorities know a motive for the attacks.Zapata said all five of the packages sent in recent days included similar small explosive devices disguised as USB memory sticks. One such stick exploded Monday in the newsroom of the Ecuavisa news channel when the journalist it was addressed to, Lenín Artieda, inserted the device into a computer. The computer was destroyed but nobody was hurt. Artieda is known for his coverage of crime and corruption, but authorities have not said anything about the motive for the attacks other than to call them acts of terrorism.Journalists at Teleamazonas, TC T...Editorial Roundup: United States

Excerpts from recent editorials in the United States and abroad:March 15The Washington Post on voter fraud:A 59-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly double voting in the 2020 presidential election. Florida authorities brought the felony charge because of information submitted by Virginia to a national database called ERIC, which is short for the Electronic Registration Information Center. The very same day, Florida pulled out of the fraud detection consortium, along with Missouri and West Virginia, capitulating for political reasons to bizarre conspiracy theories peddled by those who still claim that former president Donald Trump won reelection in 2020.If Republicans are serious about protecting election integrity and the rule of law, they’d celebrate ERIC as the enormous success it has been in helping states clean up their voter rolls by identifying people who have died or moved, as well as those who have cast ballots in multiple states. But other red states might soon...Police establish perimeter in Hallandale Beach after several people shot

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Gwyneth Paltrow’s lawyer called the story of a retired optometrist who is suing her over a 2016 ski collision “utter B.S.” on Tuesday during the trial’s opening day in Utah, where the actor-turned-lifestyle influencer appeared in court looking somber.Paltrow and Terry Sanderson, the man suing her, sat across from each other in a Park City courtroom as their attorneys gave opening arguments that provided strikingly different versions of the crash. Both described their clients as victims and blamed the other for the incident at Deer Valley, one of the country’s most upscale ski resorts. The two showed little emotion as attorneys questioned their credibility and version of events. Paltrow — wearing a beige knit sweater, tweed harem pants and aviator-style reading glasses — shielded her face from photographers using a blue “GP”-initialed notebook as she entered and exited the courtroom on the first day of the trial, which is set to last eight days.Sande...No injuries reported, cat rescued after fire rips through home in Holbrook

A massive construction crane collapsed in Chelsea Tuesday morning, barely missing several homes near the site where it fell.Residents living in a nearby two-family home were left shaken after the equipment toppled over just after 7 a.m., falling across a stretch of a construction site and into the neighboring property.Firefighters responded to the scene at Arlington and 6th streets to find the machinery on its side, with the boom of the crane sitting on multiple beams and its operator able to get out on their own.“The boom of the crane missed the back of the house by probably about ten feet,” said Chelsea Deputy Fire Chief Michael Masucci. “We had a technical rescue response. When I arrived on scene, I saw exactly what you see behind me – a crane overturned, into the steel bones of this building.”Fire officials said the operator of the crane was not injured but visibly shaken up and taken to a hospital for treatment. The work site remained sealed off for...Celebrating Spring!

Spring officially started yesterday evening, today was the first full day of spring and Mother Nature is celebrating! Temperatures today ran about 10° above average in the upper 50s with a few towns even hitting 60°. Our west wind was breezy again today but that, combined with the sun, is the reason we hit these numbers today. The wind had more of a southwest direction across our southern spots which is why we had a slight sea breeze on the Cape today and held temperatures in the lower 50s.Tomorrow will be mild again but more of us will fall victim to the sea breeze. Notice the wind tomorrow is no longer from the west, it’s from the southeast. That will cool temperatures for everyone on the coast, not just the Cape. Temperatures tomorrow will still range from 50° – 60° with the coolest numbers on the coast and warmer numbers inland.Tomorrow is also our last 6pm sunset! Starting Thursday our sunsets will be 7pm or later! The sun will not set before 7pm again until Septemb...Latest news
