(The Hill) – Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced Friday that he is switching his party affiliation and becoming a Republican, citing disconnects with the Democratic Party on crime policy.Johnson announced the switch in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. It makes Dallas the largest city in the country with a Republican mayor, passing neighboring Fort Worth.“Today I am changing my party affiliation. Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary,” Johnson wrote. “When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican.” Why Gavin Newsom says he’s not running for president in 2024 Though he wrote that the switch may come as a surprise to many, few Dallas Democrats appeared to be shocked by the move. Texas Democratic Party leadership called the switch “welcome” and said he was dishonest for running as a Democrat for his reelection in May this year.“Given his long-standing affinity with Republican leader...3 men dead, another in critical condition following shooting, stabbing at Roseville home

One day after the Lynx’s season ended in a Game 3 loss to Connecticut in the first round of the WNBA playoffs, coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve said players and coaches alike could walk away from the season with their heads held high, knowing they gave everything they had.“As a team, I think what we’re pleased about is that we maximized the group,” Reeve said. “I think we squeezed everything we could.”Frankly, that’s not really up for debate. That a team prognosticated at the season’s outset to finish in the bottom third of the league dug itself out of an 0-6 hole to not only make the playoffs, but push a top-three team such as the Sun to the brink of elimination equates to a remarkable season that exceeded any outside expectations. But those expectations are sure to elevate heading into 2024.“Now those same people go, ‘Oh, wait, Napheesa Collier is a top-five player in the league.’ Kayla McBride had a really fine season for us, and the expectation is Diamond Miller is go...5 injured, including 1 critically, after shooting breaks out at party in Pomona

PLEASANTON — Joseph Roberts didn’t know it, but before authorities found the dismembered body of his fiancée on the Alameda Shoreline, police had spent the past week surveilling him as he played golf, smoked cigarettes with friends and ate Mexican food. They’d listen to voicemails from another women calling him “handsome” and wishing him well, new records show. And now they were ready to arrest him on suspicion of killing Rachel “Imani” Buckner based on DNA evidence, in one of the Bay Area’s most shocking homicides in recent memory. On Sept. 6, police and the U.S. Marshals entered a Pleasanton apartment at 4857 Willow Road where Buckner and Roberts lived and immediately noticed strong indicators that they were standing inside a possible crime scene. There was an open bottle of Drano resting on the edge of a bathtub. No goblins were spared. My level 15 Beastren fighter saw no reason for them to live. I wandered through the world of “Dragon’s Dogma II” and chopped them down along with my party of Max, a mage; George, an archer; and Sara, a thief. If we saw a goblin, we attacked it.As a fighter, I had the strength to lift a rock and throw it at them sending the creature flying. When the pitiful foe raised a shield to defend itself, I just grabbed the monster, dragged them to a ledge and tossed them into the brine. I dispatched goblins so easily that the Goblin Slayer would have approved. In the hourlong demo I played at Capcom’s TGS By the Bay event, I received a good sense of the combat in the upcoming action role-playing game. It still retains elements of the original. Most notably, Pawns play an important role. In my case, one of them named Max had knowledge the land we were traipsing and guided us as far as she knew.Players will have no shortage of ways to kill monsters ...Photos: Bay Area high school football Week 5, 2023
