ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Wade Miley is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a muscle strain in the back of his throwing shoulder.Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced the timeframe before Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.Left fielder Christian Yelich returned to the lineup after missing two games with back issues, and left-hander Eric Lauer — coming off his first relief appearance of the season last Sunday — will start or follow an opener on Saturday.Miley went on the injured list Wednesday, one day after the injury originally thought to be a lat strain caused him to leave a game after throwing only 22 pitches. He underwent additional tests on Thursday.Counsell said the muscle involved controls movement of the scapula and is not a common throwing injury.“Because this is more unknown side, there’s going to be some wiggle room there,” Counsell said of the recovery timeframe.Yelich started Friday hitting .333 (16 of 48) ...

Lakers looking for boost after falling behind Denver in conference finals

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:48:30 GMT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Although the Los Angeles Lakers’ late-season transformation is one of this NBA season’s best stories, LeBron James and his teammates finally appear to be running out of steam in the Western Conference finals. They’ve also finally run into an opponent capable of making sure this story doesn’t have a completely happy ending. After looking weary and mistake-prone in Denver during their first back-to-back losses in over two months, the Lakers face a must-win Game 3 Saturday.Los Angeles has been on a prolonged roll ever since the trade deadline, going 27-12 while surging into the playoff picture, winning a play-in game and knocking out two higher-seeded opponents in six games. But that roll has finally been slowed by Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and the respect-hungry Nuggets, whose superior late-game play was the reason they’re up 2-0.“This is not the NCAA Tournament,” James said. “It’s the first team to four wins. We have an opportunity to go home and p...

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler has joined Corey Conners in a share of the lead at the PGA Championship. Way down the leaderboard, there’s another race going on.Who gets to return to Oak Hill on Saturday? The cut was shaping up to be 5-over par, and every shot matters to Masters champion Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth.Rahm was one shot outside the cut line until he made birdies on the 13th and 14th holes to get to 4 over. Spieth was moving in the right direction until he bogeyed the 11th, made double bogey on the 12th and a bogey on the 14th to fall to 6 over. Spieth was in a bunker in front of the reachable par-4 14th hole and sent that over the fence and out-of-bounds.He bounced back with a birdie on the 15th and was right on the cut line at 5 over.Among those certain to miss was Talor Gooch. That’s only significant because Gooch is No. 63 in the world. The top 60 after this week are exempt into the U.S. Open. Gooch did not enter qualifying, and therefore won’...

Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep has been accused of a second doping offense by the International Tennis Integrity Agency for irregularities in her Athlete Biological Passport. The charge announced Friday “is separate and in addition to” the provisional suspension Halep received last year after failing a drug test during the U.S. Open in August, the ITIA said.Halep is a 31-year-old from Romania who reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings in 2017. She won Wimbledon in 2019, beating 23-time major champion Serena Williams in the final, a year after winning the French Open. The ITIA said the new charge “was based on an assessment” of Halep’s biological passport profile by an expert panel. Such passports provide a baseline reading of substances in an athlete’s body and are considered a way to help chart doping.“We understand that today’s announcement adds complexity to an already high-profile situation. From the outset of this process — and indeed any other at the ITIA — we have r...

GOLDEN, Colo. (KDVR) — Starting next week, anyone planning to spend time outdoors in Colorado can get a free bathroom kit to help keep themselves and the trails clean. “It’s called the Doo Colorado Right campaign, and that’s spelled with two O’s,” Jake Thomas said. Thomas is a co-founder of the Colorado-based Pact Outdoors. The company makes and sells backcountry bathroom kits aimed at helping people properly dispose of their waste on trails. “For us, when we saw the increase in this rising poop problem we realized that we have kits for everything we do outdoors. We have first aid kits, we have cook kits and these kits make it easier to be prepared. So why, if going to the bathroom is something we generally do every day, do we not have simple easy-to-use kits for people to poop in the woods?” Thomas said. The kits contain a trowel, water-activated wipes and special tablets made of fungi roots to help waste break down more easily.  Summer guide to visiting ...

DENVER (KDVR) — Smoke from wildfires in Canada is blowing into Denver and causing poor air quality.According to IQAir, Denver ranked in the top five for worst air quality in the world on Friday. "If the breathing is bad enough you might even have to have someone look at you." Denver ranks top 5 for worst air quality in the world on Friday Gerber said his best advice is to listen to your body. If your breathing becomes extra strained, it might be a good time to stop. "If you're running out here and breathing isn't ...
